So this isn’t quite renovation-worthy but it is a great Bay Area service that Joe and I just discovered. Since the days I lived in Chicago, I’ve wanted to sign up for a produce delivery service that comes straight from an organic farm. In those days though, I was living alone and would have had trouble consuming an entire box myself. Now that I’m in San Francisco, Joe and I have been on the lookout for a service that was affordable and convenient.
Fast forward to this past weekend when we happened upon Farm Fresh Delivery at the San Francisco Ferry Building. We signed up for the every other week delivery of whatever is fresh. It costs $29 per delivery and comes straight to your door. Ours arrived this morning and I’m so delighted to see what arrived: Nectarines, Basil, Kale, Mushrooms, Onions, Sugar Snap Peas, Sweet Corn, and Heirloom Tomatoes. For someone who loves to cook but needs constant inspiration I like being surprised by a box full of fresh produce. Also, having so much freshness in our house steers us into a healthier direction for both meals and snacks.
Alternately, you could get your own ‘farm’ installed in your backyard. My friends Allison Arieff and Bryan Burkhart had one installed for their daughter Emilia. My Farm SF installs and maintains your farm for an extremely affordable price ($600-$1000), then a portion of the harvest will be resold, while you’ll receive a basket of your own produce each week. See their installation at the My Farm SF website here.

Looks like all of their good produce goes to SF. We tried these guys again – after a many years hiatus – only to cancel after a couple of months. Our box would not come, come with different items than promised, or worse, come with the fruit or veggies past their prime. It was a good thing if you planned to use everything within a day, but not so good if you were planning to use the items throughout the week.
I’m glad to hear your experience has been different.
Thanks for the comment Kathy! It all looked great to us but we’ve only just started. It will be interesting to see if we can actually use everthing up as well as seeing if the produce stays fresh.
