As you may have noticed there hasn’t been much renovating going on at house & fig. Things are moving slowly here (believe me, we’re just as disappointed as you are). We’ve been distracted by holiday parties, keeping warm, and checking out events around San Francisco. This weekend our procrastination was in full gear as we visited the Alameda antique fair. Just south of Oakland, and only about 25 minutes from San Francisco, the Alameda antique fair claims to have over 800 antique dealers selling their wares on the first Sunday of every month.
We actually went without any cash – hoping to fight the urge to accumulate excellent but unnecessary objects. We lasted about 20 minutes. Our first purchase was a vintage ski sweater so Joe could keep warm and we ended with a vintage Norwalk gas sign that we think is from the 60′s. In general the prices seem to be pretty good – they definitely beat antique store prices in San Francisco – and most of the dealers are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. When we actually put up some walls, I’m sure we’ll be back.
