Five years ago we bought an old house in San Francisco with a fig tree. We tore the walls down but kept the tree. Months turned into years - very cold years - but we are finally putting the house back together. Thanks for visiting.

Favorite Artwork From Serena & Lily

Favorite Artwork From Serena & Lily

Happy Saturday to you! I’ve been obsessing over wall galleries lately so I chose a few of my favorite artworks offered by Serena & Lily to throw together. I think repeating the cream and orange tones helps pull this selection together – even the birch colored framed on the seaweed print helps with the theme....
choosing a modern bathtub

choosing a modern bathtub

Joe has an amazing ability to visualize space. I unfortunately do not. As we walk through the construction site I keep exclaiming, “Wow this is bigger/smaller/longer/different/better than I imagined.” Joe just rolls his eyes because the space has been in his head for years. Thankfully, he is patient with me and super helpful. For instance,...
making palettes

making palettes

I’m obsessing a bit over facade palettes. We’ve been pretty focused on getting the construction started and therefore haven’t put a ton of thought into the facade. We need to make some quick decisions. We love the warmth of wood. It’s a big theme throughout our house but it’s rather hard to balance that with...
willow ship

willow ship

Linen is a wonderful material especially for the kitchen. I adore these block-printed, pure linen home goods by Willow Ship (made here in San Francisco). And on that note: here’s a good post on Martha Stewart about where and how to store linens. I sometimes collect antique linen and now I know to store it...

herriott-grace

I can’t remember the last time I saw such lovely product photography. This company can do no wrong. I love everything they sell and just added them to my list of favorite companies. Plus the story is so very sweet; a father and daughter collaboration. See more on their site, here. Photography courtesy of Herriott...

wall decór

The last few years in interior design have really gone overboard with wall decors. By way of i.d. magazine I found domestic.fr and I’m pretty amazed at the amount of wall decors they have produced as well as the cost; most seem to be under 100 euros. I want to put most of these in...

kids’ house by studiomama…

I’ll confess I saw this on Oheedoh (apartment therapy’s kids’ edition) but I had to highlight it as well. Studiomama a London-based designer named Nina Tolstrup designs furniture and spaces. I love the Kids’ House (show below). It includes a sleepy area, lego wall, and exterior blackboard wall. I built forts of all kinds as...

still very much in the design phase…

This is the answer we give to everyone who asks us about the house. We’ve been enjoying combing through our stack of 6 years worth of Dwell mags and just taking our time during this phase. Joe even slapped some post-it notes on the wall the other day to help us visualize what we’re thinking...

new Blu Dot catalog…

Here’s a fun video of the photo shoot for Minneapolis based design/furniture company, Blu Dot. A long lost friend Matthew Rezac designed the catalog and it proves he’s still a rock star designer. Having spent 4 years in Minneapolis, I really enjoyed seeing real Minnesota snow in the video as well as a few familiar...
modern shed in seattle - almost done!

modern shed in seattle – almost done!

If you didn’t notice Meredith’s comment the other day, then I’ll fill you in. Looks like they are almost done with the shed. It has some nice new siding. Meredith when do we get an invite to the backyard party? Also, if you get a moment post a comment or email me with what’s left...

modern shed in Seattle

One of my favorite things to do is search for other renovation projects around the globe and a few months ago, I noticed Meredith's modern shed project in Seattle...
